journal entry in july
A wooden place to hang your keys
Neath a poster of planes – a reminder of me
Every day when you come home.
Half a song that I wrote the words to
And everyone sings along, oh does it hurt you at all
That I gotta get going soon?
And would you love me if I wasn’t leaving?
If I wasn’t soon to be gone?
Honey, I didn’t know just how much I would need you.
Tell me, did you love me at all?
Big spoons and funny ways of saying things,
Cartoons and different ways of playing the guitar.
Will you miss my voice when I’m far away?
Dinners and breakfasts with Linda McCartney,
Listening to records and your drumming heartbeat all day.
Darling, please ask me to stay.
And would you love me if I wasn’t leaving?
If my time nearly wasn’t all through?
Would you smile just knowing my heart you’d be keeping,
If every day I’d come home to you?
And every Monday night without you by my side
Will feel empty.
It’s only four thousand miles, but that’s quite a while
Between you and me.
And would you love me if I wasn’t leaving?
If I wasn’t soon to be gone?
Honey I didn’t know just how much I would need you,
And I wanna come home to you.
